Equipment Checklist for AASHTO T 209 - 94
Theoretical Maximum Specific Gravity and Density of Bituminous Paving Mixtures

 
All equipment shall be inspected for compliance with appropriate dimension s, as stated in each standard, as well as to determine if it is in satisfactory operation condition (i.e. clean, tight and serviceable). Inspection shall occur at least annually, or whenever there is reason to suspect nonconformance with the standard.

 



Item Vacuum Apparatus
Description Types A - F; capable of withstanding the full vacuum applied
Hose openings covered with a small piece of wire mesh
Type A:
Glass, plastic, or metal bowl with approx. 2000 mL capacity
Type B:
Thick-walled filter flask or vacuum dessicator with approx. 2000 mL capacity
Note:
Types A and B are for weighing in air and in water
Type C:
Approx. 2000 mL volumetric flask
Type D:
Approx. 4000 mL heavy-wall glass pycnometer
Type E:
Approx. 4500 mL metal vacuum pycnometer with a clear poly-(methyl methacrylate) PMMA lid
Type F:
Approx. 10000 mL plastic pycnometer
