The process by which CTTP certifies a laboratory involves the following:

1. Laboratory enrollment form is submitted to CTTP offices. (View enrollment form)
An enrollment form is required for each primary and/or satellite laboratory and for single test certification.

2. Contact is made with the laboratory representative and an inspection date is arranged.

3. Laboratory agreement form, provided by CTTP offices, is signed by laboratory representative.

4. Payment is due 30 days from date of invoice. (View fee schedule)

5. The laboratory inspector travels to laboratory for on-site inspection. While on site, the inspector performs the following:

  • Equipment Inspection - Laboratory inspector observes the laboratory inventory and assures that the laboratory possesses appropriate equipment for each of the specifications for which they have requested certification.

  • Quality Manual Inspection - Laboratory inspector observes the laboratory quality manual and notes any deficiencies that are present in the manual. The Quality Manual for the candidate laboratory should closely follow the requirements set forth in AASHTO R-18; under the CTTP Laboratory Certification Program, AASHTO R-18 provides the guiding principles for ensuring quality in a construction laboratory. The laboratory inspector observes that all calibration/verification records are complete and have been performed at the proper intervals. The laboratory inspector observes test records/reports contained in the quality manual.

  • Provide Assistance/Information - Laboratory inspector provides assistance and information regarding the certification process while on site.

6. Laboratory certification coordinator issues an inspection report outlining required corrective actions. CTTP offices must receive and approve corrective actions within 3 months of the date of the inspection report.

7. Laboratory certification coordinator reviews corrective actions and, upon approval, issues certificates. Failure to provide acceptable corrective actions within the specified time period could result in temporary suspension of certification and/or additional fees.

8. Certification will be granted after all requirements have been met. The website will then be updated and site-specific certificates of compliance will be issued. The certificates will be valid for the time period designated on the certificate. The renewal date will be based on the original inspection date.

9. The laboratory will be added to the CTTP website list of registered laboratories.
